State Historic Park

The Park is located at the southeast corner of Clear Lake, at the formation of Cache Creek, on Hwy 53 between the Cities of Lower Lake and Clearlake, in Lake County, California. Clear Lake is the largest natural lake wholly within the borders of California. Consisting of nearly 1000 acres, the Park contains archeological sites of the Southeastern Pomo that are at least 10,000 years old, as well as a 19th Century Ranch House and Barn complex. The Park includes a nature preserve that embraces hundreds of acres of valuable wildlife habitat and Tule marsh, with one of the largest Great Blue Heron Rookeries on Clear Lake. There are hiking and boating trails that allow the visitor to experience several protected habitats within the Park, including freshwater marsh, oak woodland, grasslands and riparian woodland.

Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association Partners with the State Parks Department to keep Anderson Marsh State Historic Park Open

Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association enters into new Partnership with the State Parks Department to maintain the historic Anderson Ranch House and open it to public tours and events

In 2011, Anderson Marsh State Historic Park was one of the 70 California State Parks that was scheduled to be closed to the public. Thanks to a Partnership Agreement between AMIA and the State Parks Department, the Park remained open to the public, and the unique cultural, historic and natural resources found there remained protected.

In 2016, the furniture and other exhibits found in the Anderson Ranch House had to be evacuated due to the approach of the disastrous Clayton Fire that devastated the nearby town of Lower Lake. Although the fire burned into Anderson Marsh State Historic Park, it was stopped before it reached the Ranch House, which was not damaged by the fire, There remained, however, the task of cleaning the interior of the house and the furniture and exhibits it contained, and of ensuring a plan for continuing to maintain the Ranch House and its historic exhibits. Unfortunately, funds to do this were not forthcoming from the state.

In order to re-open the Ranch House to public tours and events, AMIA has entered into an agreement with State Parks under which AMIA will clean the interior of the Ranch House on an ongoing basis, allowing it once more to be reopened to public tours and events such as Christmas at the Ranch.
